I was taking some photos of a 2020 American Somoa quarter and came across this.It looks a lot like the number 5 to me. There is PMD by it but this doesn't appear to go into the coin it seems embossed. Is that in any way possible or is this just a deceptive contact mark? Thanks for the help

Likely a contact mark but full obverse and reverse photos would help.

PSD most likely struck by the edge of another reeded coin.
FYI, After the coin is "stamped"/minted it is ejected into a bulk bag which holds 140,000 coins.
