Fun find! It happens with Jefferson nickels that you still find pre-60's since that design is still circulating. I doubt they'll ever dry up. Not until a completely different 5 cent coin is in use. There are billions still floating around with that profile of Thomas Jefferson on it. Looks normal, definitely VF35 maybe not XF40. |

The long rectangle of Monticello's front steps is bolder on the reverse of '38 than on the redeigned reverse that came a bit later. Fewer coins with the 1938 reverse exist than with the 1939 reverse, but still plenty enough that there's no premium of note for the '38 reverse.
