I requested the name of the post be fixed. I means to say 2001 dime. But I had seen a bunch of 1991 in the rolls and 92 in really good condition, and then while posting has a brain fart lol. But anyways I think it's a die chip but the coolest one iv found so far so I'll look more into it

Well, you are the one with the coin in hand, can see it clearly and you've been studying. There have been very good explanations in past questions about the same topic. What do YOU think that it is?

If I were to guess I'd say rust development on the inner steel core.and quite common. Not an error it would be considered environmental damage.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers, Bill

Iv seen those damage rust coins in different stages, and there is always something around the effected area that causes the inner layer to be exposed, but with this one there is no damage around the bubble. That's why I was guessing die chip, no signs that it's damage.

But I know there are several kinds of die chips and bubbles that can form on a coin during minting, both would be minor errors. I can't tell 100% but my guess is die chip

Not a die chip, not an error (in my eyes anyway), 2001 P dimes are horrible for issues regarding plating, deterioration and die chips.

Common, run from every 2001 P dime that looks this way, unless you really like it than collect what interests you but you may find yourself with a very large collection of dimes only worth face value.

Iv seen lots of issues on these coins I just skip past them like nothing, but this one was nice and clean, and the AOE what ever it is, is fairly big and clean, gas bubbles under plating are considered an error, I go through a few hundred dimes a day and haven't seen one like this so I'ma hold onto it. Iv noticed alot more issues with the commemorative 2001 dimes, every one has die chips and bleeding letters all over. This looks like a decent grade with what could be a gas's bubble or something,

Also an error is an error, it's like die chips when someone else posts some they get a nice find, I post it and I get not an error, in more then one post but like not an error in your opinion. But an error is a coin deformed by the mint during the process. Even if it holds no premium it's still an error lol by definition.

Die chips arent errors, they go hand in hand with Die Deterioration.

Die Deterioration is inevitable and will happen on every single working die used to strike Canadian coins if over used long enough, die chips are the result of the same process that deterioration comes from.

Most online sites refering to die chips and deterioration doubling as "errors" or "varieties" are misleading 100% of the time.

Are they collectable? To some, yes.

Are they worth premiums? To some, yes (mostly to unknowing collectors just starting out).

Are they genuine mint made errors or varieties, no not a chance.

As for gas bubbles, if you want to consider it an error you can, but it will never see any type of premium or be considered collectible to most error collectors. Over time if and when that bubble pops, you will just have a damaged dime.

Canadian coins for whatever reason, dont get the same attention that US coins do, and even if this were on a US dime the collectors that are hardcore error hunters would look right past something like this.

Not to make you feel like your finds arent good enough, I mean no hard feelings and you should keep on hunting but sometimes we just have to set certain things aside and leave them as what they are and not what we want them to be IMO.

With that in mind, feel free to collect what you like, thats the whole point of this hobby, from time to time I collect deterioration and Machine Doubling if severe enough for educational purposes to teach my sons, but I'm also well aware of what they are and will never see a premium.

Edit: I should also add, most blisters and bubbles occur after leaving the mint, so technically unless you can prove 100% that it happened there, chances are it will be looked at as damage.

Thanks, and I'm just taking what I can get for now. Mayb I should weigh more of my coins, but ya I'll hold onto it untill it pops lol. Dosnt take up space or hurt my bank to save a 10˘ piece like this. I still do not have the gear for catching double dies and MD unless it was really obvious to the naked eye

And people save regular coins that are only worth face value, so if I don't have it and it's not worth anything, then it's an educational piece:)

Can anyone post an example of a gas bubble on a modern coin. I'm looking online and can't find anything about this.

Is this a clad coin? If so as far as I can read gas bubbles on these coins are almost always from intense heat, but this dosnt look burned at all.
