First off I am new to this forum, just looking for advice from more experienced members.

I have a $1 note with a green ink smear on the back. Not sure what to do with it, I'm not really a collector so I'd like to know if its worth anything and or what could I do with it. Thanks

to the Community!

Nice ink smear from an "older" series. You just don't see these on the newer series notes.

Nice keeper, even if it's circulated!

My opinions on your note:

As far as value goes, a circulated note like this would retail at a show for around 50$. As far as walking it around at a show and wholesaling to a dealer you might get offered 25$ for it. "Unc" notes like this can bring good money ($150++) in the right situation.

Condition really hurts this notes value.

You can always ebay it or get enough quality posts and offer it here to the Community.

Welcome to CCF.
Cool note. The evaluation by Westernsky is spot-on. Ink smears or solvent smears are the most common error to escape the BEP. The 1970s and 1980s were the heydays for BEP errors. Ink smears are also the most faked error, but the good news is the OP's note appears legit. My note cost under $100 and is UNC. Values fluctuate based on the extent of the error, the condition of the note and the denomination.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I know as with many things of this nature condition is important. And as I said before I'm no expert, however I do not feel the scan of the note does its condition justice. There is a crease in the bottom RH corner but apart from that, the note is flat and what I would describe as crisp, it crackles when handled and feels stiff like a new note. It's been in circulation but to my untrained eye it's in great "near new" condition.

However, I know nothing about grading notes so I will listen and learn.

Take a photo of the note with side lighting. The folds have nowhere to hide.
