Just pulled this CRH. Interestingly the marks are more visible in the lusterless areas.

That's a nice one and not uncommon. I only keep them when there are really good lines on both sides. John1

. Nice. Ever notice about the conditions of Woodies? Seems they're in better condition without so many nicks n scratches. Just seems that way to me.

Nice find! I like the 80's roller lines, they are typically purple and stand out well on the nice copper background.

Quote: Ever notice about the conditions of Woodies? These are not actually woodies. A woodie is caused by an improper alloy mix ( http://www.error-ref.com/poorly_mixed_alloy/). I could not find anything on Error-Ref but it has been explained to me that it's caused by contaminates on the rollers that are left on the sheets before the planchets are cut out. If I am off here, I'm sure some more knowledgeable folks will help out.

Note on the tops of the devices these lines wear off the coin. So they are topical, not into the planchet like the woody coins as they were from a poor metal mixture. They remain as the devices wear down. These wear off, so they are not the same thing as a woody. They show up after the BU appears goes away. they are soon removed off the coins and go away totally as the coin is circulated.

Quote: So. Ever notice that roller coins seam not to have many nicks n scratches Like Coop's infographic describes, the roller lines wear off during circulation. So, the more nicks n scratches, the less roller lines you'll see. Interesting that its loss of luster that really brings these lines out though. A little circulation helps but alot doesn't it would seem.

Early 80s had a lot of roller lines. I love true woodies, but I have a problem seeing past the grain to get a good grade on them.
