I really need some help on this 1983-D Nickel. I have no idea what is going on with this one. I don't know if it's a double die or Machine Doubling or what. It looks all messed up. Any help is needed on this one please.

Your Nickel looks like it was struck from a heavilyw orn and deteriorated die.
That die should have been retired long before it got to this stage.

I'm thinking Die Deterioration doubling--and an excellent example at that. Save it in a 2x2 as a curiosity/example.

does it have any value? I'm building my collection to hopefully give to my son one day.

My post signature below this message carries a bit of meaning, I pray.

It took time to do all my cut/pasting and in that time @ijn1944 posted a sentiment similar to mine. Apologies if this comes across as repetitious.

I find the interchange fascinating. @Coinfrog (rightfully) offered:

Quote:
Guessing no added value.

The offering assumes the most logical interpretation of @BizzyBonez's question.

@Coinfrog inserts the adjective "monetary" or "sales" before "value."

@John1 on the other hand is less restrictive i. e. no adjective.

@JimmyD informs the exchanges in case the OP is open to learning.

Just a good exploration by all. I find this refreshing in this era of "You're on your own. Stay out of my life."

I'll add, if I may, that, if preserved, the nickel cannot fail to acquire added value in one form or another when passed to his son.

I agree with DDD, and it carries very little if any premium I'm afraid.

Definitely DDD, but I think only a keeper if you really want it. Bad Die Deterioration on nickels is more common than other denominations for some reason in my experience, so you will see a lot for more "education" than you ever wanted.
