Was checking out some of the Lincoln cents I found and I think I have seen this before in another thread, it is only on the fields (I think I'm using that term right).

It was up in the air for awhile but I think it has been determined that these are Feeder Finger Damage on shields, they look a little different than for other series Lincolns.

@-makecents-, thanks ya that definitely looks like what it is, so is this fairly common on American pennies? Also would it be considered mint damage or in a different category like die chips?

Iv also noticed MD is way more common on American coins, at least pennies, then Canadian coins. I think about 5-10% of the pennies I looked through had MD which is annoying because a bunch of the years I have have know double dies

It would be considered mint damage. I see them quite often, so I would think nothing special but yours is showing it in the middle of the shield, which I have not found. The many I have seen are in the fields, just outside the shield. The areas, inside the shield, on your coin are recessed but on the anvil die, that had been damaged, they are raised,as are the fields, which the feeder fingers obviously drug across.

I agree with FF damage, it is a nice example. It is "somewhat" common little if any premium. As to a lot of MD on U.S.A. cents, I think a lot of Canadian coins are MD but not considered that to Canadian collectors.

It is a stronger example, so I would keep it as an educational piece.
