Did they ever try and repair a coin that had doubling? Look closely at the letters and between almost all of them it looks like something had been scratched off. The U in trust shows some doubling I believe. And why the large space between the S and T in trust? Thanks

Quote:Doubling Removed On Lincoln Penny? I don't understand the question. I don't think it's possible to remove doubling. Why so many duplicate photos? We generally ask for whole photos of each side of coin, then a couple images of areas of interest (if we need more, we'll ask).

It was a mistake on the duplicate photos, sorry. My question is why the O in God and the U in trust looked like doubling and nothing else does? And if you look closely , especially in trust, you can see where it looks like something was scratched off between all the letters. An attempt to fix the doubling?

The "IN" has Machine Doubling, but I only see gunk and no scratches everywhere else. No one would try to remove doubling (who exactly would try? and why?).

@hodi, I think those scratches are just damage and have nothing to do with the minting process. The mint wouldn't have time or budget to fix a single, defective cent.

That's what I would think as well. The U I guess is what bothered me the most.

There isn't any resemblance whatsoever of doubling on this coin. Just a dirty and gunked up Cent. IN does not exhibit Machine Doubling at all. The bottoms of the N in IN took some hits. The limited pictures of your coin look normal in every aspect.

Is this a pre 1982 or post 1982? (Or 1982 zinc?)

This falls under the post I just made in error coins ....look for other details on the coin ...the mints aren't saying they reuse the planchette to my knowledge but I have dozens like this coins covering coins that look scratched or scrubbed off . I've found this on quarters as well like from the 1960s and 1970s in quarters n the pennies are always wheat but that's probably because I usually only check wheats

When the dies get a full polishing, the fields are reduced. This reduction makes the devices shorter and thinner. That is what you are seeing.
