How would you grade this 1916S Mercury dime I just obtained? It does have very nice mint luster not obvious in the photos. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by EDM 08/14/2021 8:27 pm

To much glare on the obverse pic but I'll guess ms63.

I agree. Details are blown out, better pictures are needed for grading.

There are enough lines and scuffs to limit the potential max grade to maybe MS-63. Not sure the surfaces are original however. Close inspection of the luster would help determine if this dime qualifies as problem-free. Bands look separated if not fully rounded. Should make split-bands standard.

OK, here's another shot of the obverse, a little less light.

...and a shot of the reverse with less light.

The reverse looks mid MS with full bands , but there's something not sitting right with me about the whole bust especially the capped wings . There are areas of what looks like wear or grease , just not sharp enough for a high MS Merc .

I'llm not convinced this is MS, AU58-MS63, leaning towards AU as well.

Better pictures. I would grade this one at MS-61. High point on the obverse and reverse has worn out, not sure about the FB, and luster is subdue.

Thank you all. I bought it as an ungraded which appeared to be AU but was more impressed in-hand. And I wasn't sure if the arrowed areas represented wear or that the obverse was simply not fully struck on the high points. No wear on the cheek. To me, it doesn't appear cleaned, there is oxidation stains at the date and a few other places. Sorry I wasn't able to get the luster of the fields. The reverse has full bands with perhaps bag damage on the "N" in UNUM.
