Is there a reason for this? Just curious.

Let me guess: Your in an area that the Denver mint coins are the highest percentage? People who live where the Philly minted coins are the large percentage don't complain. LOL Denver has it share of varities. Mostly RPMs as Philly Cents don't have mint marks. But I agree, there does seem to be more doubled dies from that mint. (I also live in an area where 98% of the Coins are Denver ones.)

coop. Not really. I live in The Chicago area. I see P and D mints. Just from searching through rolls and learning all the listed doubled dies I'm noticing most are P mints.

A few of the famous LMC DDOs like the 1955 and 1972 are from there, but there's also the 1969-S DDO.

Yeah, but NONE of the RPMs are P mint. Used to be a decent trade off until they squashed RPMs in 1990.
Honestly there's not much of a really good reason for it. All the dies were made in Philadelphia until 1993 when Denver opened their own die making shop. Why the doubled dies seem to be concentrated on Philly cents is sheer coincidence.
Truth be known, there are good doubled dies from the other mints, although they are fewer in number...1969S, 1970S, 1984D, 1995D are just a few that go into the hundreds (or thousands) of dollars that aren't P mint. There are a good deal of lesser doubled dies in the wheats that aren't P mint.

For most coins and in most years the Philadelphia mint strikes the most coins which means they use the most dies which means that it is a little more likely that a hub doubled die will wind up at Philadelpia than Denver or San Francisco. Also if it is a mintmarked die (in the pre 1980 years when the mintmarks were added by hand) the die gets a closer look when the mintmark is applied when it is checked to see if the mintmarks was applied deeply enough and a doubled die is more likely to be noticed by this extra examination and rejected.

About three four weeks ago, I found a Double Struck 2000D. I don't know if it was smart of me to list in ebay but I did. I have 2 1/2 days to see if it sells. I'm new at searching for errors and I'm learning a lot! I found that this Web site helps with a lot of my questions...Thanks to all!

OMG! THAT IS IT! OOOPS, I thought it was struck twice, I've seen a couple listed before and thought I had something when I found it. Can you tell me or show me what a double strick is then? I feel so stupid! Thanks Guys!

The only problem is...I don't know how to delete it off ebay! so what I did was put it in the "other category" and it is listed as a 2000 D penny.:)

There are more P mint DDOs because I haven't lived west of the Missisippi River for a long enough period of time yet:-) Just kidding....Seriously though, I think there are indeed a fair number of Doubled dies from other mints. Beside the ones mentioned, 1960 D Lincoln DDO1968 D Lincoln DDR1968 D Lincoln DDO1972 D Lincoln DDO1972 S Lincoln DDO (business strike) 1983 D Lincoln DDO1995 D Lincoln DDO2004 D Lincoln DDR1946 S Jefferson nickel DDO1954 D Jefferson nickel DDR1956 D Jefferson nickel DDR1959 D " " 1962 D " " 1964 D " " And so on... A conjecture as to why there seems to be less from branch mints might be that dies are sent to the branch mints after the mintmarks are added, (prior to 1990) and those dies were subject to one more level of scrutiny when they arrived at the branch mint. Some may have been noticed upon delivery and subsequently scrapped. The other thought still goes to folks not looking for these as much as the folks on the east coast until more recent days. I think they are out there waiting to be found. Have Fun, Bill
