Recently I have been told and also read that PCGS and NGC have become stricter on grading early wheat Lincolns. If this is true then older Lincolns graded by TPG'S in years past do not mean as much to the collector. If the bar has moved, I think that's so wrong. A 64,65 or 66 should be the same from the get go. Any thoughts?

Grades have actually gotten higher over time, if you look at some of the original slabs the grade (to me) was more accurate. Lately coins that have no basis for getting the high grades are getting high grades. Maybe the TPG's have started to get back to original grades , based on my experience, ANACS has lately been a much harder grader than prior.

In general it's the other way around. They have become more generous over time.

I see some changes in the eye appeal adjustments, designations (RD/RB), and willingness to straight-grade "market acceptable" older cleanings. IMHO, the recent technical grading at the big three is still fairly constant. The older holders definitely were more conservatively graded.

The one place where technical grading may have become more difficult is in the mid-grades (VF 25 and 30).

I think that they grade higher now.
