Interesting find. It seems that only a few years ago these kinds of coins were difficult to explain. From what I gather lots of people are now "finding" this oddity. I'm looking for confirmation from our experts.

OK, so are the lathes lines on the master die when it was made on a CNC lathe?

Ok went back and found a nice topic on this subject that explains it well. http://goccf.com/t/38069

I truly thought it was some sort of damage from a machine until I did some research. Apparently, there are at least 21 varieties of 1996-D alone!

That's a nice one and in really good condition for a zincoln! Where did you find it? I have a few but they were gifted to me by others. Still looking for my first find.

I had a High School gym bag full of pennies since 1983. Most were damaged by moisture but some are really clean. Got lucky with this one.

Thanks everyone!
