Well it has $23 of silver in it. The wear and graffiti make it a damaged coin.

 to the CCF Looks like someone has scratched their initials into it . It is known as graffiti, a form of damage. Also when taking pictures, lay the coin on a flat surface and shoot head on. Shooting on an angle distorts the picture.

@colc, first welcome to CCF. Second, with regard to this graffiti being raised, that is true. However, it is also true that this is metal which has been displaced by the knife blade. Just adjacent to the raised lines you should see corresponding thin gouges.

If you know who the initials belong to, and can prove it (or add a backstory), then you have historical graffiti. It's always a fine line between disfigurement and historical significance, but damage usually wins.
