In addition to a tripod, you'll need to eliminate camera shake by using a delayed shutter release or a remote shutter release. I use a macro lens, and I focus manually after zooming in on the coin using the display screen. Here's an example of a quarter I photographed with a Canon T3i on a tripod with manual focus and a remote shutter release. The only lighting was indirect sunlight through a nearby window (hence the shadow below); no artificial lighting.  |

My technique would work with any camera. It's the process not the camera.
Ok...I'm willing to give it a try. I'm not in our camera department much (I'm a cashier) but I'm going to try and get a tripod in the next few days.

How do you do the delayed shutter release? The T100 has a button on the back that allows you to turn on the self-timer. The instructions should be in your user manual. Using a tripod and a 2 sec delay will eliminate any camera shake that will cause a blurry photo. Then you just need to make sure you're well focused.

Please take a look at this thread http://goccf.com/t/158182&whichpage=1It's a long thread but does tell you what you to get and when done EVERY THING is done on the monitor you do not touch the camera. Instead of a tri pod we use a copy stand. |

Glad I didn't buy it. That's not what I bid on, btw. I'm still trying to find a macro lens on a budget...and a copy stand. I bought a tripod...I'm gonna need that for some of my schoolwork so all is not lost...but for coins I want to get a copy stand. So far all I've found in the $100 or less bracket looks like it could tip over.

hfjacinto, you, my friend, are the man! I am trying your technique out and, although I haven't taken my Morgan out of the flip, I used your technique to get this shot. I haven't quite got it down yet because I'm still learning this camera. But I'm beginning to have a little faith. I am seeing some progress! By the way that flip is coming off when the plastic slab gets here this weekend. Thank you!  Edited by MissyLynn
