Would you say G4 is about right?

Thanks!

Looks closer to VG08 to me with some strike weakness. I'm a bit concerned the obverse scratches will Detail the coin though. A TPG may be lenient as they sometimes are with key dates.

obv vg10, rev f12. Striking weakness around K12-K3 in obverse and corresponding K3-K6 in reverse. I would net it at f12. Nice looking coin.
Rest in Peace

Add me to the VG-08 group. The reverse could make VG-10, but the obverse is just short.

The obverse scratches make me pause a bit. There is also what looks like a staple scratch on the reverse, but it isn't distracting. I think it straight grades, but a details coin isn't out of the question. It's a close call.

An original coin and a tough date in any grade. Take away the scratches, and this one would have good eye appeal for the grade.

Admit the surface scratches are distracting, but a little shoe polish should fix that up.

G06, with a little fixing surfaces it could jump to VG08 or VG10

Thanks everybody. I hadn't noticed the surface scratches, but the large picture do bring them out clearly.
I had thought that since LIBERTY is not visible, the best it could grade was G4.

A decent VG-8. No shame in having this coin.

Thank you everybody for your grading opinions. It seems I was quite low in my estimation - I tend to be very conservative.

I'd say G6 to V8 hopefully a straight grade too. Reverse is much nicer than obverse which is the opposite of what you'd want for a VG10 grade to get put on it.

Germanicvs would you post the coin in your profile photo sometime?

It appears to be a Germanicus Dupondius, I have next to no knowledge on any of the ancient coinage, but that one sure looks neat - if it's yours. Thanks!

@westcoin, I am so pleased you recognise this coin.
Indeed, it is a dupondius of Germanicvs struck posthumously under Caligula in 17 a.d to celebrate the return of 2 of the 3 legionary eagles lost in the Battle of the Teutoburger Forest 9 a.d.

My example is unfortunately not in the best of shapes - this is one coin I sorely regret not upgrading over the years. The reverse, however, is quite nice.
