Hard to find die markers to match since mine is in an earlier die state than the one on VV or coppercoins, but I'm pretty sure this is DDO-002. Pretty nice extra thickness DDO. I've posted a picture of a normal 1985's date below the DDO for comparison. DDO: Normal date: Edited by SamCoin 08/22/2021 4:15 pm

Is there thickness showing anywhere else besides the date? I keep coming back to 001, your notching, at the base of the 9 and 5, could have been smoothed over by circulation but you have a really nice notch on the north east corner of the 5 that is shown on cc's listing.

@Makecents I agree that the shape of the date looks very close to 001, but sadly, the doubling on the bust and IGWT is far too weak to be that one. The doubling is most visible on the date with a little bit visible on LIBERTY and GOD, but not nearly to the extent seen on DDO-001.

@Coop yeah, sorry, I got confused about which thread this was. I thought it was about the unlisted 2018 nickel DDO I posted and that you were saying there were listings. I am aware that there are many listings for this date. I deleted my original reply and updated it,, but looks like you read it before I was able to change it to respond to what you were actually saying. I've looked at all three sites, but have been unable to match any die markers. @oldfordman doubling is quite easy to see if you know what you're looking for. Tail of the 5 is about 3x the thickness... this is a class II/VI doubled die Don't look for separation lines, look for thickness.

You might have to check the individual devices to see if the hub doubling matches? Markers can happen before-after coins are struck. So they will not always match. But if you look at the outside borders on the devices, the die scratches last longer there. Inside of devices, the last even longer. That is where to look to see if the die scratches were there on your coin.

Mid to late 1980's can be buggers. That's a nice one and hope you can get a solid match.

Thanks TB! Yeah, they certainly can. I have a couple others from this time period that I've just given up on. I usually just write "DDO-00X (or similar)" on the flip when I do that, but I'm curious if you or other members have your own cataloguing strategies for dealing with coins like this. Any tips on how you label finds that you can't nail down as any one particular die but also don't think are unlisted? If it were just unlisted, I'd write "Class II/VI DDO" and be done, but not sure what I should put down.

On the Doubled dies with a mintmark, (I know your coin doesn't have one) they can be matched up for mintmark locations. That is a quick way to determine if it is that die or not. Die scratches are helpful, but my suggestion above will help you when the die scratches were on the die at one time, but now, the open field die scratches are flattened. So look next to devices to see if there is a hint of a fading die scratch next to the the devices. An as I mentioned earlier, inside of closed devices, the die scratches will last longest.
