the clip looks real to me, but I'm troubled by the odd appearance of the nearby digits, I'm not sure if that's a 0 or 8 as the last digit

I'm not sure on this one, but would probably call it a clip.

the weakness opposite the clip on the reverse of the coin isn't right, it's right placement on the obverse, above trust, the rim right there, but not for the reverse in my opinion, which would lead me to believe this is man made, not mint made. Not all clips display the The Blakesley Effect of course, but this one is displaying it to an extent, and it isn't right it should be exactly opposite the clip on both sides of the coin, not one side or in different locations on a coin flip from the clip. Smal clip small blakesley, but again, it's not the right postion on the reverse, or it's missing on the reverse completely. also the clipped area should show a "breakaway zone", where the shear/punch breaks away the planchet, it goes so far then snaps in essence on the clip or punchout, one part (top or bttom of the clip) should be smooth from the shear/punch and then the other half where the metal snaps should be rough. if the strike doesn't remove the clip, then it doesn't remove the effect on how metal shears work. numbers should stretch outward over the edge, not inward, then the edge shouldn't be coming over the numbers either. I don't like it for these reasons, just a few things that are suspicious or out of place on it. Sorry, I think it's post mint damage and not a real clipped planchet. http://goccf.com/t/312255

Also the devices next to the affected area are weakened. So it is the real deal.

Quote: up with the strike there causing the numbers to become distended This is what I would expect from a legit clip. The elements directly adjacent wouldn't fully strike up since the metal is being forced into the void from the clip. I think it's legit.

It does look fishy to some extent. The clip seems very straight. Also the edge with the clip seems oddly damaged, like there was tooling. But the characteristics of the date seem somewhat organic. It's a toss up for me. I am leaning toward PMD.

Looks legit to me as well for the reasons Tanman and Coop mentioned.
