This is a very incredible looking dime I wanted to share with you all. Tell me what you think error or just age damaged ?

Just a damaged coin. My guess would be it was exposed to high heat.

Maybe a severe blow to the obverse?

Thank You; Sam Coin I will try that with my butane torch and see what happens. It would be interesting or would that be illegal to damage a coin on purpose?

@realdeal101 you are likely to get a very different result from a butane torch or a similar clean/controlled flame. This looks like an example of bonfire or house fire damage.

I tried the torch and there were no melting at all It was just discolored . I believe if it was a bon fire it would just be a blob of metal because of the no control of the heat.

@realdeal101 not true, we have lots of known examples of fire damaged coins that this is consistent with. But even if it isn't, what does it really matter? It's not an error, just PMD.

More food for thought. To replicate a raised bubble using heat, the coin in question that's being heated has to have gas trapped between the clad layers. I'm thinking most do not. Thanks, Doug.

Thanks for you input Halo 1st and Dearborn; I'm not sure what a proboscis is ? I'm guessing its a schnozz as Jimmy Durante would say.

House fire coins show the swelling a lot more: Not on your image that some areas the bubble has been partly flattened.
