All three of the 1949-S doubled dies are essentially the same thing and look alike. But the die-1 gets most of the attention as it is FS-101 and worth some money in higher grades. Die three is somewhat less common, but getting on the hard to find side. And here is DDO-002, the toughest to find in any kind of decent grade.

So this is the rare one, but not worth nearly what die-1 is. The doubling is exactly the same, but this one also sports an RPM (which, inexplicably, VarietyVista calls too minor to list).

Nice one. I was kinda nervous for a minute. Had to check mine to make sure it was ddo-001.

Hey Will, Yeah, I have never checked the photos but I suspect a fair number of FS-101 coins are mislabeled. That said, die-1 is by far the most common one found, maybe 75% of the ones I find are that die, with the rest mostly die-3 and a few die-2's.

Great info, I just checked mine and this MM is noticeably thicker.

Nice find.

I still haven't come across any late 40's DDO's.

Interesting struck through debris on the reverse at 9:00. But the real money is on the varieties.

It's odd to me that this happened several times.

Thanks for great discussion. And the bit on the reverse is just a lamination flake that has separated from the rim and bit of the field but is still attached. Not a positive on a coin with nice varieties going on.
