Came across this coin today with two different eye colors. Stood out right away and had to keep checking it to make sure my eyes weren't fooling me. Thought it was colored in but doesn't look athat way. Now my curiosity got me. Any ideas?

Did a search online and didn't find much.

Any insight would be grateful.

Images attached are full front of coin which when you zoom in you can see the difference in color, and my attempt at holding a magnifier with the camera to get th close ups on the eye.

It does look, perhaps, like someone tried to colorize one of the eyes. How? I have no idea.

@abc, first welcome to CCF. Second, I think that I see what you are talking about. How ever this happened, we can be sure that it wasn't part of the striking process.

to the CCF!

someone tried to add some color to the coin.

It's questions like these that lead me on some interesting searches! I did find that Grant had "steel grey" eyes and red hair, or at least that's what most historians seem to agree. The attached image shows a color version of what he may have looked like.
