With all due respect @racingjoe66, no more pics are necessary. There are certain traits/die markers that a 3 legged buff has, and they are just not there on yours. Its important for one to understand HOW the 3 leg became the 3 leg, through excessive die polished, use and wear. Sans the obvious missing leg (altered), the die state n the remainder of the reverse does not match genuine 3 leg examples. It's appears you're pretty set on believing this is a genuine example, after numerous opinions given, that's ok, we're all entitled to an opinion. So from here, you're best bet is to send it into a TPG for them to look at. We're just trying to save you some money . If you send this in to a TPG and it comes back genuine, I'll pay for your submission costs.

Thanks all for the input. Just was trying to be hopeful it was genuine vs fake. I do see what everyone is saying about it and the missing stuff and too shiny. Trying to give the guy I was looking at getting the coin from the benefit of the doubt as he claims it was his grandpa's and inherited it after he passed. Won't bother taking it anywhere to have looked at and waste there time

Send it in to NGC. If its legit, it should probably be in a holder. I hate to tell you it wont come back in an NGC holder, it'll come back in a "bag"

So I noticed the fake 1937-D 3-legger in the OP or a copy with the same under the chin tool marks/damage sold for $660 a couple days ago on ebay. I am a new member so it says I should refrain from posting external links for a bit but could include link if appropriate or pictures from the listing. The ebay Item number is: 393786034564Curious if people think the under the chin circular tooling/damage indicates same fake 3-legger as OP or if they are mass produced with this pattern. The photos and lighting in the ebay post are not very good so hard to see if any scratches match up but there is a matching dig/chip near rim by the nose and a mark on the field by the lips that also seems to match between the two.

to the CCF That is a counterfeit 3 leg that was just sold on ebay. You can buy them from China for about $1.00 each

That coin is 150% not legitimate for reasons as stated above. It's an easy spot.

The coin is altered. Take our word for it. It's a cleaned circulated tooled mess that screams "RUN FORREST RUN".
