Is there a collector out there of Australian pennies who likes the errors. I have a full collection (minus 1930) and there are lots of variations and die cracks.(documented) Not sure what to do with them all

Minor varieties used to be very popular. Now there is not much interest now though. If I was selling I'd either put them up individually on ebay with good pics. Or send them to an auction house and sell them as a lot. Watch your top knot

I have not idea - I have not looked at the collection or values for years. I have no idea if there is any value in die cracks, dots in the wrong place, different mints etc etc.
There are 5 of the 1925 and 3 of the 1946

There are 5 of the 1925 and 3 of the 1946 As already mentioned the market for error/variety Coins on ebay has fallen in a hole,they still sell but for nothing like the value pre ebay. If the 25 & 46 are Pennies(not halves) then they are worth big money(obviously) whether they have errors or not. ebay is the best bet to sell. |

There is still a lot of value in some of the harder varieties...I wouldn't sell anything until the coins were all checked out by someone who Knows varieties.

Yes,good advice but these days it has to be a major malfunction in the Coin being struck before there is any demand.
Die cracks,cud and even clips have fallen in a hole price wise compared to the feeding frenzies of the 1960's and early 1970's.
I'm in a small Coin Club up here in Northern NSW and we were discussing this very issue,error coins,only a few weeks ago.

depends on the quality of the 1925 and 1946 but definitely worth more than they use to be. I would be interested in some pictures of these coins :D, there definitely too many to be sure what you have and what could be worth alot more than the standard book value.

Die cracks are very common in Australian predecimal,cuds reasonably so...The prices reflect that since everyone has been able to sell through ebay. Although some of the more spectacular die shatters can fetch a good price. the coins I was referring to are the true varieties. Examples being London obverse 1920 and Indian obverse 1931 among others. I was lucky enough to find a 1931 dropped 1 Indian reverse penny a few years ago and it kinda looks like any old 1931 penny to the naked eye. |

The same could be said for anyone who would spend 30k on a 1930 Penny...copper value approx: 12 cents.

A bit late replying to Karloning, but I do have a soft place in my heart for a good die-crack, planchet flaw, upset or die clash. However, the ones that get me the most are the errors that look like something fabricated but they're not. Like genitalia on a roo, a stubby pencil stuck to a kings chin, a love heart next to KG....etc etc. When I get some more spare time I'll post some for your opinions.
