1990 Washington Quarter With Clipped Planchet

Miss Italy21 Valued Member United States 163 Posts	Posted 09/06/2021 10:21 am I have this quarter that appears to be a clipped planchet. I looked it up and found similarities, in the one part is smooth at the top, and the copper part us where it looks like it broke off. It said there should be a lighter or faint looking letters above the clip, with it gas in the word "LI" on the obverse. It should have slightly rolled into the clip? I'm thinking this is a true error? Any thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

Let's see what the others think. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 09/06/2021 1:09 pm Note the reed lines pushed inwards on the altered areas. The coin was normal when struck, but the reeds are squeezed into outer rim area during the strike of the coin. Thus the outer rim edges were normal, but the coin was alter/damaged before you received it. The reed lines tell the whole story.
