When I looked at a price guide it listed a 1942 and a 1942 P TII. I know it is a War Nickel, did the early 1942 nickels not have the large mintmark above the dome of Monticello? So is the large "P" the type II?

Both non war and War Nickels were made in 1942. The non War Nickel did not have the P over the dome like you said and they are the regular composition.
