I bought this along with about 25 Buffalo nickels, a few other coins and a 1917 DDO for ten dollars. I thought I was just getting the nickels but they tossed in a few extras and, this was one I had no idea was in the bunch. It's pretty beat up to say the least but there's only an estimated five hundred or so of them existing. I'm about 99% on this one. I've checked a couple of pics very thoroughly to be sure.    |

It does look like there is something on the bottom of the last 8, particularly in the third photo. Can you take an extreme closeup of the last 8? That would help.

I can't. That's as good as I can get it. I used my friends phone because mine is terrible. Then sent it to mine and cropped it.

With the condition of the coin, it's impossible to see a 7 in these photos. You have PMD, and possibly MD or DDD in the date. In photo 2, the anomaly appears to be on top of the 8, unless it's just the glare. |

 An image from my files on this die. But is there something coating your coin? Or is this what is left from an a cleaning? I had a coin years ago that was totally black in color. I tried to remove the color and the surface broke down and looked something like your coin? So it might be that die, or not. Just can't tell from the images provided. |

Just not showing a difference on the OP's coins. The condition would be a problem for this coin. Just not convinced on this one.

The top of the 1 has taken a hit, and the bottom of the bust has Machine Doubling. The positioning looks really close, but need better photos. A closeup of the entire last 8, to include the top. I recommend a USB microscope w/ camera. Please try to post, I'm totally interested in knowing what you have found. |

I apologize for not having better pictures. I just bout this coin a few day ago though and know better than to clean them. If you look at my second pic though at the last eight on the top right you may notice the mostly horizontal line going across it. That's the top of the seven. The coin is pretty bad though I will admit

I will do that for sure. I have a number of coins that require better equipment then what's at my disposal to take photographs. I'll get back to you guys thank you

To me, the date logo is too far left, so I'm skeptical. Compare the top of each digit to the bust contours above the date in Spence's two images.

Nice, Coinfrog. I see it now. The 1st and 2nd 8s appear to be out of position. Uh oh. From my experience, once it starts to go "no", it stays "no".

Yep....date position is off. Its close, but as pointed out, everything is just slightly left.
