I agree that this is just Post Mint Damage or PMD. It's not an error, as the damaged area of the reverse has caused a raised area on the obverse. The deepest areas on the reverse also show scrapes cut into the metal. with Spence that it has the look of a Cud, but a Cud this large would have caused a large area of weakness in the strike on the obverse, and not the raised line seen here.

It's interesting that the coin is still round with little or no metal pushed outside of the original circle of the rim. It also has damage that looks very different than other coins I've seen in the past. You may want to hang on to this one to compare to error coins that you find.

Do you happen to know the weight? It almost looks as if metal was grafted onto this coin at some time. It also looks as if it encountered heavy circulation wear after it was damaged. I'm trying to figure out what could have done this, but it's not adding up in my head.

So I don't know how this is possible but the coin still weighs 3.1 but a piece like that missing I thought it would definitely weight less
