Hello all, brand new member here, wondering about a coin I have had all my life:

1965-P-Mint-Roosevelt-Dime-With-10-Stamp?
1965-P-Mint-Roosevelt-Dime-With-10-Stamp?

Just wondering if this is a common error, or what this may be,if anything out of the ordinary!

Thanks and God bless,

Kevin

When someone spray paints "wash me" on a car, do you assume that Toyota just painted it that way by mistake? The mint doesn't typically stamp big 10s on their dimes before releasing them into circulation.

Just a counterstamp of unknown origin, worth face value.

It's called a "counterstamp". Some people collect them because they are unusual others feel they are just post mint damage coins. Search here on CCF for a thread on counterstamps, you'll find a bunch of them there.

@kcl, first welcome to CCF. Second, this type of anonymous counterstamp is sometimes called a "maverick". For sure it is a fun find and I'm glad you are keeping it, but it is highly unlikely to find out anything about who did it or why.

@kclj didn't mean to be rude, sometimes I just try to bring a little humor to posts like this. You'd be surprised how many questions we get like this asking if a coin that was clearly run over in a parking lot is a mint error

The addition on the obverse, flattened the reverse of the coin just opposite that area. (you can see the push out on the reverse for the zero)

@wrekkdd coins and canada is absolutely terrible in my opinion. I wouldn't trust anything they say about valuation.
