I've been searching for any information I can find on 2000 Special minted coins and have come up short on this one. This 2000 P State Quarter has a very proof like finish. It is just missing the frosty white raised areas. Was there any special sets that had Philadelphia minted coins that had a proof like finish that year? Never seen them this reflective. Thanks! I had a hard time taking a picture of how reflective the surface is so the third picture is with a Screw driver above the surface.    |

If no copper is showing on the edge, it may have been plated. It is not a proof. Proof coins then, are struck in San Francisco. There is a finger print on the his left boot. (our right) If the coin is showing copper on the rim, you might remove the finger print and keep it for an album? If plated, spend it. It may have been a HSN plated coin sold to the rubes.

A plated coin never crossed my mind. It has strong striations on the obverse and reverse. Would the striations show that well through plating? As John1 said, I nice pic of the edge would be good. It just looks like a nice buisiness strike to me though. I think the design of this coin almost give the devices a frosted look. -makecents-

EDS (early die state) coins often have reflective fields. This coin might be from an EDS die.

Thanks! Sorry I forgot to mention it is not plated. It has a normal clad edge. It probably is a EDS. I've just never found one so reflective that wasn't a proof. Either way I do plan on keeping it.
