The US Mint just revised the numbers on mintages for circulating coins (see this thread for details: https://goccf.com/t/39837). Both Denver and Philly minted huge quatities of SAC dollars during the month of December. From Jan-Nov, there were only 1.8 million or so apiece minted. But now, the revised totals are 9.8 million Philly and 14.8 million Denver, ranking it I think in third place as most common SAC behind 2000 and 2001. Edited by mycrob 01/26/2009 10:27 am

Interesting. I wonder why they had that last minute boost of output?

Everybody saw the low mintage, figured they would be rare and ordered a bunch through the direct ship program.

Quote: I am not saying your numbers are wrong but I find it hard to think that they minted that many sacs.. I would think they were minting the 2009 native american coins b/c they are already out to the public and they will be in circulation...Just hard to think they sold out "early" 24 million sacageweas.. I mean thats a heck of a demand From the other thread.......Could this be true Mycrob ?....... perhaps they were minting the 2009 Native American Sac ?

If that's true.....I bet it wasn't "everybody" so much as it was the Home Shopping Network (CSN) boys and their ilk ! (Littleton, etc. etc) They will have ordered Millions of them to pilfer the public out of some bucks in the near and distant future when it's too late to order them and they're gone......They most assuredly will have noticed this and ordered PLENTY of them for sale to their beloved common man.....

So.......we'll have to pay $72.00 PLUS shipping & handling to get a roll of P's and a roll of D's for this 2009 Native American dollar coin (formerly known as the Sacajewea Golden Dollar Coin)Shhheeeeeshhh.......seems steep.. .....but it's as per usual from the Mint I suppose !....

No, my take is that all the coins minted in December were dated 2008 P or D SAC. They may also have been minting 2009 SAC with the new reverse at the same time- don't know. Where did all the 2008 SAC go, if the US Mint is sold out?

I definitely think that the sudden increase of the "Sacagawea" coins minted in December 2008 were in fact 2009-dated business strike " Native American dollars". The Denver Mint was selling those business strike coins on January 9th. I just washed my car with five of them... They could easily have been making them in December (before the holiday shutdowns) to build up an inventory of same for their release into circulation on January 9th. The Denver Mint was making 2006-dated Nickels in December 2005, they just weren't released into circulation until 2006. Quote: Amazon99: "Ecuador needed more dollars at the last minute." If they need more Dollar coins, the new 2009 business strikes would fit in perfectly!

DNA: I see your point. But should the mintage numbers for the 2009 dated coins then be 2009 numbers and not 2008, even though they made some of the 2009 coins in 2008?
Probably we will not know for a year or two what the final SAC 2008 numbers are.

Maybe now I can get my hands on an uncirculated P & D. Just couldn't make myself part with 5 or 10 on each coin.

According to HSN's Mike Mezack 2008 was the rarest year and that each 2008 will easily be worth 8 to 10 bucks in 6 months!!
HAHAHAHAHAHA
