Hi All! I've got a 1996 quarter with a shadow between the "R" and "D" of Quarter Dollar. It looks like a baguette shape with a 7 or a letter inside of the elongated square shaped stamp?

I've taken several pictures to enhance, but I'm not getting the best pic as I can see through the loupe. It's a bar shaped stamp with possibly the #7 inside? Any ideas as to what I can check in researching?

Thank you!

Looks like a stain or grease on the coin. Not a mint error.

Agree, some form of stain/discoloration--likely acquired in circulation.

I'm pretty sure it's an impression. Very hard to see, but there is the number 7 or it's the double print of the "R"? Try to get a better pic.., but there is a number or a partial "R"?

It is just some sort of mark from circulation. Doesn't really matter exactly
what caused it as it couldn't have happened during the striking of the coin
which is the only time an error can occur.

Perhaps Pareidolia is in play.

It's not Pareidolia! A couple of my other non-pareidolia friends were here and can see it also. It's not a stain. It's an impression. I'm very certain of this.
Obviously, my camera is not "up to par" or should I say "Pareidolia-ixels"! Thanks, everyone!
