This penny seems to have a great patina but it is covered with what looks like melted hard candy ...I tried warm water from sink but doesn't touch it. Was not sure if Acetone was the answer. Thanks in advance

I would spend it and find another. It may never be right again.

Certainly not worth the time and effort. Value 1 cent either way.

Acetone. If you haven't tossed the coin yet, try acetone. It will be an education piece, if nothing else. Try it.

I have rolls of OBW 1960-D cents. Not worth the effort. Looks like clear clue or clear fingernail polish. Spend it.

I ended up microwaving water to just under boiling, and dipping it and letting it soak a few minutes then worked that stuff loose. I know its not valuable but I like the petina.

Good for you!! At the end of the day, it's about the "beholder", if you really like it, you should keep it, it looks nice.

Sure is a nice looking coin you have. Great job on the 'restoration' of it. I would have just dumped it into my change jar
