For now, I am going to hang on to them while I seek more information about what exactly I have. Then I will be offering them out. Obviously, I do not need 50 of the same coin. John is first on the list and Coinhunter4 I will make you second on the list to receive one

Quote: If this is a doubled ear, which it truly appears to be, this is one heck of a pronounced second ear! Very interesting find and I hope it turns out well for you!! Now.... if it is a doubled die.... being on a single squeeze die production method.... which class would this be? Definitely not a class 9 but some type of rotational hub doubling I'd think. And, it's right in the middle of the Cent. I don't think I have even heard of anything other than a class 9 on any of these Shield Cents. Going to research this. With the information that we presently have, (which can change), this is a Class IX doubled die. I pretty much understand the other 8 but won't lie, this class makecents to me sometimes and other times, not so much.

I sometimes hold the coin at a slight angle. This helps with the glare. You mentioned you found a whole roll like this which has me thinking it is in fact doubling. At first I thought of some plating issue due to the appearance of the outer second lobe having a ridge. It looked like when the coin was struck the force kind of wrinkled the plating. I'm not sure if that is even possible. If you look at the eye you can see a circle just above the socket and on the brow. In my mind if areas like that have issues with the plating adhering, when struck they may crinkle or roll up. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge can say if this is a possibility or not. The hollow area and high ridge and circular form of the suspected doubled area looks wierd to me. Hopefully it is a new find. On lieu of that Congrats!!!

It also looked a bit weird to me which is why my original question was asking if this was even a doubled die or something else. I am not yet convinced 100% that it is. I will probably have Wexler help me with this.

Put me on your list for one of these. Could end up being a DDO-001 and that's my main collection. Interesting coin.
