I'll say EF-40 tops, high VF would not surprise.

I think it's been cleaned. The "outline" around the eagle strongly suggests being cleaned by wiping.

The reverse on the 1875 S has some issues that need to be addresses because the coin may not be genuine. 1) There is a gap between the neck feathers between the neck and wing. It looks like a cross between a type 1 and 2. 2) The core of the arrow feather on the OP example turns down. On a genuine example it is straight. 3) The denticles look off. OP Example Genuine PCGS 1875 S Type 2 Reverse

It is next to impossible to see these inconsistencies without much larger close-ups.

If NS can get some close up photos of the marked areas when he gets the coin in hand. I will provide close up photos of a genuine type 2 reverse.

I don't think that this coin has the Type 1 reverse's eagle neck feathers as they should look like that of the coin below: I think that it looks more like the type 2 reverse neck feathers below which is consistent with the other markers. This coin pictured below is similar to the subject coin in this thread and the subject coin definitely has a type 2 reverse based on the other markers. I'm not really sure what differences you are seeing by the talon and by the denticles. Can you elaborate?

Look at the end of the bottom arrow feather and compare. The OP coin could have taken a hit, and you will need to check it out when you get it in hand.

Yes, it is pretty mangled and was also thinking that it may have taken a few hits. Will examine closely in hand. Thanks!

IMHO, it's a genuine Type 2. The other Type 2 reverse markers include: the bottom arrow tip is over the center of the "2" rather than pointing to the NE of the "2" there is no berry behind (immediately east of) the eagle's left talons (our visual right) the fourth leaf in the first right cluster points to the upper right serif of the "F" the lower berry between the leaf clusters is further away from the top of the "E" than Type 1. Both large and small mint mark styles were used on 1875-S dollars.
