I am aware that there is a 1968 DDR in the Charlton 70th Edition, as well as on Coins and Canada, however those DDR's have doubled "68" in the date and the one I am showing here today does not, it also goes in the opposite direction.

At first I thought it was Machine Doubling with a bit of Die Deterioration until I came across a bunch of split serifs and notching while getting a bit closer, and when I seen the example on CaC and other places online I realized the doubling looks a lot alike besides being in the opposite direction.

Here you will see "CANADA" showing a nice split serif on the top right of the "N" and extra thickness in the last "A" compared to the first and second "A".

Here you see the word "DOLLAR" showing split serifs on the top right of the letters "LL" and noticeable separation and notching on the bottoms of "AR".

When comparing "AR" to another 1968 example you will notice that there is a very large difference in size and the notching and splits are in the correct locations to be a doubled die.

My eyes looking at the photos aren't seeing what you see with the coin in hand. To me, it looks like what you first thought, MD with some DDD. SPP wrote the Charlton section; maybe he knows.

I discussed that coin specifically in the CN Journal. See volume 62 (2017), p. 46-47.

You very well might be right, seems I've been missing out on some good reading material on the RCNA site, I will look into it!
