This is a coin that was offered to me. I declined the purchase but since there are so many Morgan dollar enthusiasts, I thought it would be fun to try grading it.

Pics aren't the best, but it does not look less than 67 PL to me. 68 PL would not surprise me coming from NGC

I'll say 67PL.

Strike looks a little flat above the ear. Does that still merit a superb gem grade?

MS66DMPL
I believe an incomplete strike doesn't affect the grade.

I could see it being an inhibiting factor to make 68, but IMO A coin this clean has no business being in a 66 holder or less unless the strike is inordinately weak. The reverse breast feather look full struck up to me, and the hair is only marginally weaker. I would be happy to pay full retail for this coin in a 67PL holder myself

Hit under her head right of the date keeps it at 66 and I think prooflike though I have a similar reflective 80s that did not get the designation for some reason . They are also though on this year and mint mark

66 seems like a solid bet, but the hazy fields look more PL than DPL. MS-66PL seems about right.

67 PL or DPL NGC only requires 4" mirror depth clarity, so I lean toward DPL.

NGC I'd say it's no lower than a MS67 and likely a MS67* as to PL yes, possible DPL
Final answer - MS67* PL

These were the TPG opinions. Both NGC and CAC thought it was on the better side of 68PL.
