What is that pimple above the "1" on the obverse?

Quote: NumisEd asks: What is that pimple above the "1" on the obverse? I'm not exactly sure, but it's an indicator of a genuine variety, the Bolander #4 or BB-61 (Bowers & Borckardt) Small Date/Large Letters. R-3 rarity. It can be seen on several of the PCGS True View coins. Here is one of them pictured where you can easily see it: https://images.PCGS.com/CoinFacts/2...960_2200.jpgThis one is a real beauty I'm in at EF45 and I'm pretty sure this is the coin that went unsold in the Stack's/Bowers August ANA Chicago 2014 sale Lot #4131

The Small Date, Large Letters variety in this example has an obverse die that had a dot impressed in it. Not sure why it came to be there. Maybe someone knowledgeable will come along and let us know.
