1796 $1 Draped Bust Small Eagle Dollar - BB-61, B-4, R-1

numismatic student Bedrock of the Community United States 11884 Posts	Posted 10/15/2021 01:43 am I spent some time looking at silver dollars of this type. The 1796 is the common date in the Draped Bust/Small Eagle short lived three, not quite four year series with a larger mintage of 79,920 coins. I'm not exactly sure, but it's an indicator of a genuine variety, the Bolander #4 or BB-61 (Bowers & Borckardt) Small Date/Large Letters. R-3 rarity. It can be seen on several of the PCGS True View coins. Not sure why it came to be there. Maybe someone knowledgeable will come along and let us know. Report this Post to the Staff
