Greetings! I'm new to the forum and to coin collecting as well. I found this post and I wondered what in the world is going on with this penny that I found that is missing only the I in LIBERTY. Seemed odd , but it also seems like it might just be a grease issue. Please advise and thanks in advance!

It looks like there's a patch over it or that it has been flattened or something. Any help would be excellent!

At first I thought grease but looking at it closer, the "I" looks flattened so
I am saying damage.

@sound, first welcome to CCF. Second, as it is best practice to start a new thread for each new coin, I have split your post off of that older thread.

First reaction is graese filled, but flattening does indicate damage--not particularly uncommon.

Guessing this was caused by a circulation hit.

A "strike" out I guess. Thanks for the welcomes and the insight. I was hoping I was sitting on a pretty penny.

Note the width of the 'I'? The deepest part of the device was almost completely filled, Thus just the base appears.

Post mint damage. May have been flattened by mechanical means.

Hey @ Coop. In your pic, and thank you for that, it resembles the first of the three. Right on the money as it were. Pun intended. Thanks!
