Hello, Just received some of the new Morgan's and one of my D minted one has a raised something on the coin. Looks like a crack that has beaded or pooled metal that cooled in the raised crack area. Have seen a couple kind of like this on a redit thread but not quite same but near same location on coin. Is this an error and if so Is it worth grading? Thanks for any info in advance.

To me it appears as a die crack on the fields and another coin's reeds altered the coin even before it could reach circulation. But regardless of when the damage happened, it is still damage. I it happen after the strike on both coins. So it is not a mint error. It is a damaged coin.

Thank u folks for helping! I am guessing since damaged then probably isn't worth grading then?

Just FYI to all. I was checking coin with loop again yesterday and appeared as tho the crack was starting to float on the side in field. At that point decided to open capsule and sure enough was floating. Used post it note and slid it under the metal and it popped right off. Coin looks for most part just as normal. Was some silver or whatever on the metal strand. Thanks for input and for the welcome.

Could you post up another picture of the same area? you know, a 'before and after' thing?

Someone one found the exact same thing on one of their 2021-D's: http://goccf.com/t/410124I agree with the determination on that thread, detached rim finning.

Ok gonna take an after photo now. With a loop I can see very slight couple marks, but don't think will be able to see with naked eye. Will see what can do. Had already thrown away the piece of metal or would have taken pic of it as well. Wouldn't lemme do 2 pics in one post or would have copied the before as well but can see original pic

huh, it all came off. Looks like you have a very nice coin now. This rim finning seems to be happening a lot on these coins. I wonder if the Mints tolerances are a tad too tight and the coins are 'getting a shave' with each strike.
