It has the look, at the worst, of a very old cleaning retoned. You, sir, appear to have the eye.

What would you call the grade? VF?

I'd grade it about $100 in a PCGS slab. Oh, Sheldon grade? Depending on the unclear LIBERTY, F-15-ish.

I thought it was a low VF at best. What do you think of this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...280302318360I have a feeling that someone got a great deal (I lost), and I would have gone $200 since the coin is worth 800+ problem free in XF, but I was scared to because of the lack of a decent return policy.

Um, wow. Comments: I don't think that 1840-O Half Dime is to worry about. My gut feeling is there's no way it'd slab besides Net, and those aren't uncommon or expensive. The price you quoted would probably require a PCGS slab. The Quarter is your Fruit Coin. I believe you're going to be pretty happy with this one. The Halves? Not bad; methinks they'd make good trade fodder for filling holes in your collection, although the 1898-o is a sleeper. My belief is you'll be sending the 1838 back. I'll be darn surprised if it hasn't been cleaned. An 1866-S in VG8 just went on Heritage for $690. You're OK here. Man, you're on a tear, aren't you?

The price I quoted for the 1840-O was numismedia, and I checked on heritage (it was a drapery variety), and corroded/cleaned XF went for over $400. So that's why I was saying that. The no drapery is not valuable, but it seems that the drapery is actually quite valuable. Were you talking about sending back the Half Dime (its actually an 1832), or the 1838-O dime? If it's the 1832, yeah, I'd be surprised too, but it looked pretty good : ( I'll definitely post pictures of that when I get it.

The 1853 was a slam dunk, well below market. The 1890 is AU50 at worst, probably better, and definitely worth the risk at the price.

I thought so with the 1853 I just hope the obverse doesn't look dull in person, or something.

I actually work third shift, and keep overnight hours on my days off. I'd noticed you've been on almost all night; that's why I asked.
