Sorry to spam being a newb but I found a weird penny in a 1999 Proof set that is unopened and isn't cracked. It only affects the penny? Any ideas what happened? Thank you.

@pink, although there is a shadow, it looks like some of the periphery of this cent has toned. I don't think this is uncommon.

It is what we would call 'toning' some just say it is the patina forming on the copper surface - both are correct

It could be the set has a crack on that area of the set. Or maybe the coin planchet was affected before the strike toning/staining the areas in question. Not a plus for the coin or the set. More of a distraction and lowers the value of the proof set.
