I was just wondering about this 1956-D Wheat penny. On the reverse side, in between the F in OF and the A in AMERICA, I can see an additional "A" in between the two letters. Is it just me? And if this is an error or variety, of which kind would it be called? And thank you so much for your time...I really appreciate your help .

But note the size? If is much smaller than the normal 'A'. It is just damage on that area of the coin. What your are seeing is called Pareidolia:

Your brain saying that something is there, when it can't be. Why not? If they were there, you would be a double set of all devices there and not on just one side, but on both sides of the coin. The devices are not added to the die, they are all set in the hub. So all will be in the same alignment. Also if it were extra letters, it would raised, not level with the fields. They are not. Hope this helps.

It is just you.
It is impossible for ghost letters or numbers to appear during the striking of a coin.
What you see is just circulation wear appearing to look like something,

Thanks so much for your time. I'm new to this, but I'm not delusionally desperate here. But thanks for the insight into my thinking with the " Pareidolia" terminology. I thought questions were cool here. My bad.

Well if one person had a question about it, other may have wondered also. So now that question was answered. So it was not a waste of time, but just something to learn and consider in future searches.
