I'm not too sure on this one. there seems to be some raised metal on both obverse and reverse. I would think that it would be pushed in toward the center of the edge instead of out. (At least on one side it should be. BUT, I have been wrong before...

@pe, I'm leaning towards this being the real deal. Can you please show a pic of this area edge-on? Thx.

Dearborn and Spence, thanks for taking a look and here's a photograph of the edge of the coin straight on as requested. I also weighed the coin of 5.50 Grams.

It's a nice little clipped planchet. Keeper.

How is that clipped? You can still see the rim edge. Still learning here.

About 1/2%. Just enough for some reeds to form.

Real deal. Note the weakness on the 'U' on UNITED. That is what a clip would look like near devices. (One of the clues for it being real) Looks like straight clip. How can I tell? I I keep an envelope on my desk and placing on that area of the coin, it is a straight edge on that area, and not a curved clip like we more often see.

Always interesting to see questionable coins be explained so why it is/isn't what was expected. This one was the real deal. So I wanted to show why it is the real deal and what to look for on these. Great images by the way. Always nice to see them too large than to see them too small. I can always edit over large images. But when they are too small, they pixelate when enlarged. Thus if you have the choice of quality/exlarge size, they can be a real help when editing images.
