Hi all, greetings from the UK.
I was wondering if anybody out there knows why the 2017 1 cent 'P' has got a 'P' and the other years for the Philly mint have not.
Thanks Merv

225th anniversary of the Philadelphia mint. It wasn't announced that the 2017's would have the mintmark until after they were released into circulation. I remember it was a big surprise.

I read that the "P" mintmark made the Philadelphia mint workers feel good, since the other mints had always had their own mintmarks, at now at last they too were being recognized on their own coins.

I remember that... pre-covid, simpler times. I was stoked to get a few for my collection. I wish they had only done a couple hundred thousand P MMs to really make things interesting.

Philly has had the "P" MM on many coins, just never on the cent prior to 2017. Except for the cent, all Philly-minted U.S. coins since 1980 bear the "P" MM. 2017 was as one-and-done (entertaining) anomoly.

On a side note I hope in 2022 they'll replace "In God We Trust" with "Peace Out" and retire the silly thing. (Except for proof collector versions, of course. )

There were simpler times? Seems like a distant memory or forgotten dream now.
