Before I see comments too, the spots you see on the coin is from the wash when they cleaned the planchets and it didn't come off fully. When exposed to air/oxygen for a long period of time it'll get darker and darker and eventually you'll be able to see it without putting a shadow over the coin.

It looks more like environmental damage/staining and discoloration like a cup holder coin, rather than toned.

@Cahse007

Not even close to a cup holder coin it's very easy to spot environmental damage and they'd be lots of ink first off. This is all natural baby.

I'm the source I've been sepcialing in shield cents for 4 years now. I've had a lot of experience with them and that is from the wash. Shield cents show wash spots and when left out in the open like On my desk they get darker. Also if you don't see them on a shield cent block the light with your hand cashing a shadow then you'll see it

Toning for me on shield cents I'd NEVER collect AT toned first off and allow that in my collection. How I see the coins and how my brown works it's easy to spot natural vs at. It's like when you all see Mechanical Doubling vs a doubled die. It's easy to spot you don't even think about it oh that's md or that's a dd. Again that goes with environmental damage as well. Looking at it I know what I've got.
