I have a 2019 Massachusetts State Quarter that has only a couple little shiny spots. It has the color of a old penny. I'm not sure what you call it? I have never seen a quarter this color, Even on ebay. It also has almost looks like a particle circle lightly imprinted on it.

Well first off
Second: Can you post up better pictures (closer and cropped to the coins edge)?
Third: from the images you posted it looks like environmental damage or toning.

Exposure to an environmental agent. May be mechanical coin wrapper damage--the 'circular' feature barely visible a bit inside the rim.

@pan, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree that this is surface toning due to chemical or environmental exposure. Interesting to look at, but just worth face value.

to the CCF

Whatever caused it, it is not an error as it didn't happen during the
striking of the coins so it must be damage of some sort

This is about as clear as I can get it. I watched a few videos that said only to run warm h20 over it and don't scrub. Is there a better way without damaging it?

Why go through the trouble of trying to clean it.
It is worth 25 cents now and it will be worth 25 cents after.
Much better pictures by the way.

Your question is not "dumb" it's just an issue that is asked a great deal here on CCF. I agree that your coin is a victim of harsh environmental conditions that have stained/tarnished/discoloured/altered it. This was done post mint as there is nothing in the minting process that would do this to your quarter. It looks cool, but is only damage. No premium I'm afraid.

to the CCF! What other questions do you have for us?

I like your screen name but unfortunately, this is just environmental damage.
