Despite the wear, the sharpness of the design detail that remains suggests that it is genuine. I have an almost complete type set of English/British silver shillings Charles 11 - Elizabeth 11.
With the pictures I see, the color and texture of the patina gives me cause enough to want to investigate it further. Weight should be around 5.65 grams, diameter 24mm. If you have another .925 silver shilling in the reigns of George 1V - Edward V11, check against it for same ping tone.

It is certainly brass or gold in colour . Pictures are accurate . All I can find on web is it might be a fake .

Looks real to me. May have a brassy colour as its toned or been around coppery coins a lot. Wear is consistent with a coin in VG to gVG condition. Its the last year of King George III and a nice design.

Quote: It is certainly brass or gold in colour This alone would make me question the authenticity of this coin especially when it is known that silver coated fakes have emerged in the past. I would be checking the specs that sel_69l has provided, starting with the weight. Also check that the coin's thickness is 1.2 mm. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces8476.html

Quote: Anyone help with this coin please? After making some comparisons I'm now 99.9% certain that your coin is counterfeit. EDIT - I don't know why but my post isn't displaying correctly when I add photos and links? I'll try again in the morning.

Definitley counterfeit. The date alone tells you that.

Why does the date give it away? Just curious.

I'm still not sure why my post last night wouldn't display properly but I'll try again now that I'm not half asleep! Note - I see that JimmyD has since posted one of the two indicators that I had been trying to postIn the comparisons below the first image is of your coin, the second is from All Coin Values https://www.allcoinvalues.com/unite...-over-s.html and the third is from NGC Coin https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...duid-1324201 As depicted, an indicator on the obverse is that the bottom of the bust is too far away from the colon following 'D' and on the reverse there are too many raised dots surrounding the rampant lion.

What is the possibility that the OP's coin is a die variety?

Quote: What is the possibility that the OP's coin is a die variety? Personally I don't think so as there seems to be just too many irregularities. Looking at the obverse it appears that the surface wear is at different stages when you compare the two areas pointed out below. Also you will notice that the circled ribbon lengths are even in length when compared with the other two coins. However the double dot on the reverse of the All Coin Values coin may well be a die variety?

In my experience counterfeits in this series are VERY common. There are literally dozens of known varieties. Chances of a rare die variety are so low I would say infinitesimal. Just look at the details on the royal crest.
