Agree. I'm leaning toward Die Deterioration Doubling. Would sure like to see full, large and sharp images of the obverse and reverse. Thanks.

No, not MD but it is DDD instead. notice how the 'doubling' moves toward the rim. That is a sign that the die is drastically wearing out.

Welcome to CCF. Importantly, the doubling we may be seeing in the photos isn't the type created on the die initially when created at the mint, but happens after a lot of use. So not worth much if any above face value.

As mentioned this is DDD Die Deterioration Doubling. How is this not a doubled die? Note the affected area.
1. Is the doubling on the device? The device is normal sized, the on the fields in the direction of the rim, the field is altered to look like the device. On a doubled die the devices will be enlarged.
2. This a a form of die wear break down that affects the fields. This can continue and the die will develop into to what is called Ridge Ring. That is stage two. But again this is a die event, not a doubled die which creates the doubling on the die and is seen struck from coin #1.
3. DDD is something that develops over die usage. A doubled die will show the doubled die on the first coin.
