Hi All,

I believe I have found a die clash. At first I thought it was a beat up quarter until I saw the X on the head.

Pics do not show this very well very hard to capture....Legs feathers on both sides of ear.The eye and breast feathers are showing in the neck area as well. The mouth has been altered by the edge of the wing. Claw marks and leaf imprints on top of head. Feathers in the field of the coin.

That is what I think I am seeing.

All opinions welcome.

Hard to say for sure. There are an awful lot of contact marks as you stated. You have it in hand so you can tell better.

Just seeing contact marks on you example. On the reverse of the quarter the area by the beak is the first spot to check:

@cons, I believe that the X is just contact marks rather than evidence of a die clash. When the dies contact each other, it typically happens on the areas most raised (such as the fields). The head would be a ways down in the die and therefore very unlikely to show evidence of clashing.

All I'm seeing is a beat-up coin. As stated above, if you're seeing clashes [in] the devices you're looking too hard. I would have to be a massive clash.

@cons, everything I see is incuse, a die clash would be raised on the surface of the coin.
