I've spent about 4 hours trying to figure out what kind of error or verity this penny is.

The front is as normal as any other business strike.

But the back is rippled all the way across.

I hope that the pictures are good enough.

I can feel the wavy pattern down the whole back.

I wonder if the coin was 'cooked' on a grill or something making the area that is raised to sink in-between the grate. the lines are very parallel and of regular spacing to be a random event (other than the 'cooking event').

Yes, may be the result a somewhat brief, heat-induced event. Nice find.

Dearborn, that is a very plausible explanation of the op's coin. Never would have though about that. It would have had to be a very tiny grate though due to the spacing of the lines but does make sense. Especially showing the discoloration on the rim and edge in the op's 4th pic as well as no discoloration on the lines that would have laid on the grate. Let's call it the "Seared Cent". Pretty neat find IMHO. These kind of posts make me want to experiment with coins. Very cool!

A few too many photos, and please always orient your images to present normally, otherwise we are have sore necks trying to see what you have.

Bottom line with your coin: post mint damage. No premium, sorry.

Not a plus for the coin. Just a spender:
