It seems the 80' pennys have many problems but I've noticed the 1988 D mint mark was repunched multiple time and the D is moving around under the date. Is this common for a mint mark to be in different places under the dates? Thank for your input this forum is amazing.

Yes it is normal. Before 1990 the mint mark was punched into each die by hand so the location varied.

The mint marks were hand punched on each working die until 1990 so placement will vary. Yours also shows split copper plating. We would rather you use a memory card than post photos of your scopes monitor screen.

Yes since as noted, the mintmarks were placed on the dies by hand. Pretty much as long as the mintmark isn't touching anything else, then there is no numismatic premium for it being out of place.

Agree with all above. Hand-placed mint marks (those rascals) contributed to the overall character of coinage.

Before 1990 all the mintmarks where hand punched into the die in different locations. After 1990 they are part of the design, so they will not be in different locations.

Yes I'll get a card and learn the correct way to post pics. I'm also going to educate myself on what split copper plating is. This is a super exciting new world of collecting pennies. Oddly I'm not trying to make a quick buck, I just love the challenger of finding interesting Pennies. Currently I have 6 of the Super 7 1982 pennies(I'm not looking for the 8th unicorn 82' D small date bronze penny, but Ya never know). Between these forums and searching I think I've found a great hobby. You all are an amazing wealth of info, thanks for helping me understand the wonderful world of Lincoln Pennies.
